Ragfinery Workshops

Ragfinery Workshops

Ragfinery’s mission is to grow a culture of creative textile reuse through education, entrepreneurial opportunities, and job training.

Our workshops uphold this mission by inviting our community to choose creativity over consumption, recycling over retail, and making over marketing. There’s something for everyone, from basket weaving to quilting - we can’t wait to see what you create!

Class Scholarships

We are thrilled to announce that this season will be our first offering two or more scholarship spots for most workshops! If the cost of a workshop is a barrier for you, we invite you to apply for a free spot. Please note that scholarships are first-come, first-serve, and are not transferable between workshops in case of cancellation or postponement.

Because scholarships affect the number of tickets available for sale, the scholarship form will be open during the following dates:

January Workshops: Dec 20-27
February Workshops: Jan 18-24
March Workshops: February  15-21

Teach a Class With Us

We are accepting workshop proposals for spring and summer 2025!

Are you interested in teaching a textile workshop at Ragfinery? We would love to have you on our schedule! Please fill out the form below and let us know what kind of class you're hoping to teach. Class schedules are released on a quarterly basis (Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer), and once a seasonal schedule is finalized we begin planning for the next quarter. We have limited capacity for workshops each quarter, but our goal is to diversify our courses with a variety of techniques, media, and skill levels. For our Spring and Summer 2025 schedules, we are especially seeking the following:

  • Low-mess, kid-friendly workshops (especially for summer!)

  • Hand embroidery

  • Beginner-friendly machine sewing projects

  • All levels of apparel sewing, including patternmaking and tailoring

  • Copying or creating a pattern from an existing garment

  • All levels of quilting

  • Workshops focusing on artistic exploration via textiles

Please note that we cannot accommodate any of the following activities in our classroom space. Occasionally we are able to coordinate classes to be held in other facilities, but we cannot guarantee availability (suggestions are always welcome!):

  • Any kind of fabric or fiber dyeing

  • Any kind of fabric painting or marbling

  • Classes requiring large equipment (such a floor looms, industrial machines, etc.)

If you have an idea for a workshop that isn't reflected in the list above, we encourage you to submit your proposal anyway! We keep all proposals and may reach out to you if your class would work for a different season. We look forward to hearing from you, and if you have any questions please feel free to reach out at workshops@ragfinery.com. Thank you!

Goals for our workshop program:

  • continue our mission of turning consumption into crafting!

  • offer local textile artists and craftspeople a venue to teach their unique skills

  • offer a variety of techniques in various media, with a focus on waste diversion and creative upcycling

  • increase accessibility by offering free classes and class fee waivers to needful participants

Your donation to the workshop program will go toward materials and supplies for classes, paying our instructors and coordinators, and (most importantly) making these classes accessible for as many people as possible. As the workshop program grows, we will be also able to offer more workshops with a greater variety of techniques and materials. Thank you for helping us grow!
