Sewing 101- Taught by Boonlan Wong

Welcome to our Sewing Machine Introduction Class!

In this class, we will help you get comfortable with using a basic home sewing machine. We'll go over important topics like threading the machine, understanding tension, and identifying different types of textiles.

Our goal is to give you a strong foundation so you can confidently start using your sewing machine for all sorts of creative projects and even mending.

Objectives:

  1. Learn how to thread a sewing machine, including the top thread, bobbin, and winding the bobbin. Don't worry, we'll guide you through it!

  2. Understand the basics of stitch length vs. width, so you can create the perfect stitch for your project.

  3. Be able to identify tension issues in a stitch and how to correct them. We'll provide tips and tricks to make it easy.

  4. Understand the anatomy of a sewing machine, including the feed dogs, bobbin winder, presser foot lever, and reverse stitch button/lever. We'll explain everything in an easy-to-understand way.

We're excited to help you on your sewing journey and can't wait to see what you create!

By the end of this class, you will have sewn your very own one-of-a-kind upcycled tote bag! Not only will you leave with a new and useful tote, but you'll also have gained the knowledge and skills to repurpose discarded materials into something beautiful and functional.
