After a fire on December 29th, 2024 disrupted our space, we’re taking a pause to come back stronger than ever, powered by the support of our incredible community and guided by our mission and shared creativity.
Closed for Now, Creating What’s Next.
At the end of December, Ragfinery experienced a fire that damaged our space. While no one was hurt, our retail operations have been on pause since—and our storefront doors (well, they’re boarded shut) remain closed for now.
It’s not the first time we’ve faced uncertainty. Five years ago we temporarily shut down due to rising COVID-19 cases. What we thought would be a two-week pause stretched into nearly a year. And yet—we adapted, we created, and we kept going.
And that’s what we’re doing now. Still mending. Still making do. Still moving forward.
Navigating a New Chapter After the Fire
We’re currently in the “hurry up and wait” phase of reopening. There’s no confirmed timeline yet for when or where we’ll reopen—but we’re actively exploring new possibilities and are hopeful about finding a space that will carry us into our next chapter.
Huge thanks to:
Our landlord, for being incredibly kind and supportive
Service Master by Roth for their fire mitigation expertise
Our amazing volunteers and community members, who recently raised over $5,000 at a community-run garage sale (WOW!)
We're also navigating some leadership changes, as Interim Executive Director, Rue MaCall leaves us to move across the country to Michigan, and Kate Stragis steps back into her previous position as Executive Director. We are also welcoming onto the team our new Program Manager, Emma Wardell!

Reimagining Our Space
Despite the challenges, our mission has not changed.
Ragfinery is here to grow a culture of creative textile reuse through education, entrepreneurial opportunities, and job training.
By diverting textile waste from the landfill, we aim to build a community that values creativity, social responsibility, and environmental health, benefitting all people.
While we cannot accept physical donations of items right now, please feel free to hang on to them for when we can! If you are curious about what you should hang on to, check out our donation guidelines. Thank you!
Remaining Rooted in Our Mission
Although our physical shop is closed, Ragfinery’s work continues:
Providing online educational material around textile waste, mending, and upcycling
We’re partnering with community organizations for free pop-up upcycle challenges
We’re mending, connecting, and making from wherever we can
We're proud to continue small but mighty parts of our mission while we plan for the future.
